Imagine spending 2 years of your life stressing over getting a 4.0 GPA at school, building a good portfolio, typing out this blog for your lab assignment, just for the owner of a business to be like, “Why should I hire you? AI can do your job quicker and I don’t have to pay Adobe as much. Plus, ChatGPT is free.” Now, before we grab our knees and rock back and forth like a crazy person, I still believe that there is a place for graphic designers for this world we live in.
The reason there is a place for us is very simple. There is a level of problem solving and design concepts that AI doesn’t have a grasp on yet. While it can generate a background that looks very convincing like the real thing, it can also fail to understand the design concepts that we are taught. We have an idea of why things should be round or square? Why red might be too aggressive and blue might be a better option? Most people that also use AI, won’t know how to create a good prompt for the AI, leading to iffy results.
While AI is progressing at a scary rate, I think that designs with a human touch will be in higher demand over AI generated photos.
